Prophetic Words

Tips For Giving Prophetic Words

1.    RELAX. It is not up to you to hear God for a person. It is up to God to speak. Let go of expectations of yourself and don’t accept the expectations people put on you.
2.    Take turns prophesying. Make sure the quiet unconfident ones get a turn. This is as much about us building team, all growing in our gifting and confidence, as it is about the people being ministered to hearing from God.
3.    Don’t worry about making mistakes. This is a learning environment. You are not expected to get it all right. ** ask people to close their eyes & look at God **
4.     Remember you are there to strengthen, encourage, and edify. If you pick up a negative aspect of someone’s life, try and share it in a positive manner. Example; seeing a real harsh critical spirit on someone. Ask the Lord why the person is so wounded. Somehow they had to learn to attack people first so they could feel safe. If God shows you pain and abandonment issues and it really ministers to that person it would be easy to speak into their defense mechanism and dismantle it. In other words if they feel they don’t have to protect an area of wounding they will drop the weapon (fear, anger, judgement. . . ) they are using to protect themselves and allow the Lord to heal them instead.
5.    You may “read” stuff about a person you are not to prophesy about. Pray and weigh stuff you hear about a person as to whether you are to share it. Not everything we hear is meant to be spoken. Possible issues involved will they hear form you? Do you have favour in their lives? Is what you are going to say edifying, strengthening and encouraging?
6.    Directive prayer. If you have a word that will tell a person to move, marry, or change vocation, WATCH IT! Tell the people it is just an impression and that they need a lot of outside confirmation on things like that. They should not take your words as the very words of God. All things are to be weighed. Take the low road, if God will bring it to pass he will, whether you say, ” thus sayeth the Lord” or not.
7.    Burden Bearing. Watch what you are hearing, seeing, and FEELING. If you feel things changing from person to person it is not what you are feeling but what they are feeling. Pray it through. Remember that if it is an issue you are struggling with it could stick on you and you might need to get some prayer.
8.    PRAY FOR EACH OTHER A LOT.
9.    If a demon shows up, pray peace. If the Lord reveals the issue the demonic is resting on ask the Lord to bring His presence there. Remember shovel out the manure and the flies will leave.
10.    Try to be on time. We will be doing 3 people an hour with 5 minutes in between. The 5-minute breaks are really good to wash off any defilement or emotional burdens you picked up. As long as we run somewhat on time it is all right to ask people to wait while we wash off.
11.    You can ask people to close their eyes. It can be very hard to prophesy to someone when they are looking right at you. Don’t be afraid to ask people to close their eyes, put out their hands etc. . .
12.    If a person doesn’t receive what you are saying just leave it. It isn’t up to you to defend God or prove your gift.
13.    Remember to have people praying for you. Many hands make light work, even in prophetic ministry.
14.    HAVE FUN! PRAY FOR EACH OTHER! LEARN HOW YOUR WIRING WORKS! DON’T BE AFRAID TO MAKE MISTAKES! IF YOU FEEL SLIMED TELL SOMEONE!
15.    When you’re done, you’re done! Don’t feel the need to give more than you have.
16.    When the time is up, stand up and open the door! (They will to tell you their life story) Say, “Find me later if you want.”
